The Treasonable Nature of Sit-at-Home Agitations
President Bola Tinubu has recently taken a strong stance against the recent sit-at-home actions in the South East, denouncing them as treasonable and vowing tough action against violent non-state actors responsible for the attacks. In a statement released yesterday, President Tinubu directed security agencies to apprehend the masterminds behind the unfortunate incident, particularly highlighting the killings of five soldiers at the Obikabia Junction checkpoint in Abia State.
The tragic event, which occurred during a sit-at-home protest organized by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has sparked national outrage and calls for justice. President Tinubu emphasized that the government will not tolerate such acts of violence against its security personnel, emphasizing the need for decisive sanctions against those responsible.
Expressing his condolences to the families and colleagues of the slain soldiers, President Tinubu reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the nation. He stressed that the ongoing attacks on security forces undermine efforts to create a harmonious society and cannot be condoned under any circumstances.
The President called on security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators of the Aba attack and anyone inciting violence through calls for sit-at-home orders. He emphasized that such actions constitute a serious breach of the law and should be treated as treasonable offenses.

Despite the challenges faced by security forces in recent times, President Tinubu commended the dedication and sacrifices made by soldiers and policemen in protecting the citizens of Nigeria. He urged peacekeeping personnel not to be discouraged by the tragic events in Aba but to remain steadfast in their duty to safeguard the nation.
In response to the incident, Abia State Police Commissioner Kenechukwu Onwuemelie assured the public that the law would take its course in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He condemned the killings as cowardly and reiterated the state’s commitment to enhancing security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Moving forward, both federal and state authorities have pledged to collaborate in ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. The Defence Headquarters has vowed a fierce response to the attack, emphasizing the military’s determination to defeat any group threatening the nation’s security.
As the investigations continue and efforts are intensified to bring the culprits to justice, President Tinubu and other stakeholders have called for unity and cooperation among all Nigerians to combat acts of violence and uphold the rule of law. The nation stands united in condemning such heinous acts and remains resolute in its pursuit of peace, justice, and security for all.
