The Nigerian government, through the Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, has reiterated its confidence in Air Peace Airlines despite recent complaints from the United Kingdom regarding safety issues. In a statement released on Wednesday, Keyamo reassured the public of the government’s support for the Nigerian flag carrier operating on the London route.

Background
Air Peace, a prominent Nigerian airline, recently expanded its services to include flights between Lagos and Gatwick Airport in London. This move has not only increased travel options for passengers but also led to a significant drop in flight prices along the Lagos-London route. Prior to Air Peace’s entry into the market, ticket prices were around N3 million, but the airline’s competitive pricing strategy has seen fares reduced to N1.2 million. As a result, other international carriers have also adjusted their prices to remain competitive.

Keyamo’s Response
Following reports from the UK Civil Aviation Authority regarding supposed safety violations by Air Peace, Keyamo confirmed that the airline had promptly addressed the concerns raised and resolved any issues to the satisfaction of UK authorities. He emphasized that the government stands behind not only Air Peace but all Nigerian flag carriers, pledging full support and cooperation to ensure their success in international operations.

Air Peace’s Clarification
In response to the UK CAA’s inquiries, Air Peace clarified that it had received a letter regarding the use of Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) during inspections at Gatwick Airport. The airline provided the necessary information, confirming that all Boeing 777 aircraft are certified to operate with EFBs. Additionally, Air Peace addressed concerns about iPad mounts, charging ports in the cockpit, and the location of cockpit libraries on its B777 aircraft, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.

Safety Commitment
Air Peace reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and regulatory compliance, acknowledging and rectifying deviations such as runway exit procedures. The airline assured travelers of its dedication to upholding the highest safety standards and operational protocols, promising to adhere to recommended practices for the benefit of its passengers and the aviation industry at large.

In conclusion, the Nigerian government’s unwavering support for Air Peace underscores its commitment to promoting the growth and success of domestic airlines operating on international routes. Despite initial concerns raised by UK authorities, Air Peace’s swift actions and compliance with safety regulations demonstrate a proactive approach to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining operational excellence.
