NACAT Calls for EFCC Probe of Ex-Delta Gov Okowa
In a recent press briefing in Abuja, the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking Initiative (NACAT), a prominent anti-corruption group, called upon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to initiate an investigation into former governors who have pending petitions against them. The group highlighted the case of the immediate-past Delta State governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who has been the subject of numerous petitions yet to be acted upon by the EFCC.
Neglect of Probing Petitions
Tega Oghenedoro, the executive director of investigation at NACAT, expressed deep concern over the lack of action from the EFCC in investigating the allegations against former governor Okowa. He allgeded that despite receiving petitions from various individuals, including a statesman from Delta State, the EFCC has failed to make any progress in probing the corruption allegations against the ex-governor.
Delayed Justice
“We are at a loss as to why the EFCC has not taken steps to investigate and prosecute former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, despite the overwhelming evidence presented in the petitions against him,” stated Oghenedoro. The group emphasized the importance of holding corrupt public officials accountable and ensuring that justice is served in a timely manner.
Injustices in Corruption Cases
The NACAT highlighted the disparity in the treatment of corruption cases, pointing out that allegations against ex-governor Okowa far exceed those against other politicians. They called into question the integrity of the EFCC and suggested that there may be a bias in favor of ex-governors from the South South region.
As a leading anti-corruption group in Nigeria, NACAT is committed to exposing and fighting against corruption at all levels of government. The group has conducted thorough investigations and audits of financial records to uncover the misuse and embezzlement of public funds by former governors.
In conclusion, the call for the EFCC to probe ex-Delta Governor Okowa is a step towards ensuring transparency, accountability, and justice in Nigeria. By shining a light on corruption and demanding accountability, organizations like NACAT play a crucial role in promoting good governance and combating corruption in Nigeria. The public’s right to know and the need for justice must prevail in the fight against corruption. The NACAT’s efforts to hold corrupt officials accountable should be supported and encouraged to uphold the rule of law and combat corruption in the country.
