Ajaero: Arrest Poverty, Hunger, Not Innocent Nigerians – PDP Tells Tinubu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration regarding the indiscriminate arrest of labour leaders, activists, protesters, and innocent citizens. The party believes that such arrests have the potential to spark chaos within the nation and should be avoided at all costs.
Rising Concerns
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized the need for caution in the government’s approach to handling dissenting voices. In particular, he pointed to the recent arrest and detention of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, by the Department of State Services (DSS). The party views these actions as an attack on the fundamental rights of individuals and a threat to democracy.
Additionally, the PDP called upon President Tinubu to prioritize addressing the pressing issues facing the nation, such as rising inflation, poverty, and hunger. Ologunagba urged the government to focus on improving security and implementing policies that would benefit the welfare of all citizens, as this is the primary duty of any administration.
The Real Root of the Issue
In a scathing critique of the government’s actions, Ologunagba highlighted the true cause of the protests that have been sweeping the nation. He stated, “The sponsor is hunger, the President and his people; arrest hunger and there will be no protest.” This assertion sheds light on the underlying factors driving civil disobedience and calls for a more compassionate and empathetic response from the authorities. “Let your draconian policies, that are bringing people to their knees. This is the season school is resuming, we know what all of us are going through for those who have pupils in school,” Ologunagba remarked.
He further emphasized that the government’s insensitive and irresponsible policies have made it difficult for ordinary citizens to plan for their futures and pursue happiness.
The party’s spokesman stressed the importance of government prioritizing the welfare and security of the people above all else. He lamented the current state of affairs under the current administration, where these essential aspects of governance are sorely lacking.
A Call for Reform
Addressing the news of Ajaero’s detention, Ologunagba expressed concern and called for transparency in the government’s actions. He urged the authorities to focus on addressing the root causes of discontent among the populace, rather than resorting to heavy-handed tactics that only serve to exacerbate tensions.
The PDP spokesperson criticized the current administration for failing to provide adequate welfare and security for the people. He urged President Tinubu to prioritize the well-being of Nigerians and ensure that policies are in place to alleviate poverty, hunger, and insecurity.
In conclusion, the PDP’s message is clear: rather than resorting to arbitrary arrests and clampdowns on dissenting voices, the government should focus on addressing the root causes of poverty, hunger, and insecurity in the country. By arresting poverty and hunger, not innocent Nigerians, the government can avoid potential civil unrest and steer the nation towards a path of stability and prosperity.
