Agric Minister Reveals Plans for New National Apiculture Policy

In a bid to revitalize the apiculture subsector and unlock its untapped potential, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, has hinted at the development of a new national policy. This move comes as the Minister emphasizes the importance of including the youth in driving the honey industry towards contributing significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The Vision for Apiculture

In a meeting with youth bee farmers from the Youth in Apiculture Initiative, Senator Abdullahi commended their efforts and highlighted the importance of the honey industry in contributing to the $1 trillion economy that President Bola Tinubu aims to achieve for Nigeria. He emphasized the need to support innovative farmers who are passionate about contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.

Senator Abdullahi reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting apiculture and announced plans to kickstart a Multi-Stakeholders Platform (MSP) for the sector. The platform aims to bring together partners and stakeholders to collaborate on developing policies that will drive the growth of the apiculture subsector.

Developing a policy for the honey industry will be a top priority for us as we work towards achieving President Tinubu’s vision for a $1 trillion economy,” Senator Abdullahi stated.
