Rivers State People Are Tired of Wike – Amaechi
Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, recently commented on the ongoing political crisis in the state that involves Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. During his visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Hon. Okorinama West, in Port Harcourt, Amaechi made it clear that he would not be endorsing either Governor Fubara or Minister Wike amidst the political turmoil. Let’s delve deeper into Amaechi’s perspective on the situation and the implications for the political landscape in Rivers State.
Amaechi’s Take on the Political Crisis
Amaechi highlighted Governor Fubara’s increasing popularity as a direct result of the growing discontentment towards Minister Wike among the people of Rivers State. He emphasized that the residents of the state are fed up with Wike’s leadership, which has paved the way for Fubara’s rise in prominence. This shift in public opinion towards Fubara signifies a changing tide in the political dynamics of Rivers State.
Shifting Loyalties and Political Alignments
The former governor noted that some of his erstwhile supporters have begun aligning themselves with different factions within the state’s political sphere based on personal interests and agendas. This underscores the fluid nature of politics and the need for individuals to adapt to evolving circumstances to further their own aspirations. Amaechi’s observation sheds light on the intricate web of alliances and rivalries that define the political landscape of Rivers State.
A Call for Youth Participation
In his address, Amaechi urged the young supporters of the APC to actively engage in shaping the governance of the state. He emphasized the pivotal role that the youth can play in driving positive change and influencing the course of political events. By encouraging the youth to take a stand and participate actively in the governance of Rivers State, Amaechi is fostering a sense of empowerment and responsibility among the younger generation.

A Neutral Stance and a Message for the People
Amaechi reiterated his neutrality in the ongoing political feud between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, stating, “I can’t stand and join either Sim or Wike. I will not join Sim, I will not join Wike.” He emphasized that the power ultimately rests with the people of Rivers State, who can shape the trajectory of the state’s political landscape. Amaechi underscored that Fubara’s current popularity is driven by his opposition to Wike rather than any inherent qualities, indicating the widespread disillusionment with the incumbent minister.
In conclusion, Amaechi’s stance on the Rivers political crisis reflects his commitment to the democratic process and the empowerment of the people to make informed choices. The shifting loyalties and emerging factions within the state’s political arena signify a dynamic and fluid environment where alliances can change at a moment’s notice. By urging the youth to actively participate in governance and calling for a people-centric approach, Amaechi is setting the stage for a more transparent and inclusive political landscape in Rivers State.
